Egeskov Slot

Egeskov Slot is a few hours from København, but worth the trip. It's a mix between a grand old castle, a private home, a fun park and a museum. There are some rather odd parts - such as the Dracula Crypt, but the absolute highlight is Titania's Palace, perhaps the most amazing dolls house ever build!

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek

The Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek has a great collection of all sorts of art, and wonderful buildings. I love the Rodin works, especially The Age of Bronze. There is something almost erotic about it. Maybe that's just me?

Days & Nights in København

København's main railway station (Københavns Hovedbanegård).


Wonder why the Danes are the happiest people on the planet? Could it be because the street lights in some parts of town give you a happy face at night?

Helsingor & Louisiana

We went with some friends who were staying to Louisiana and Helsingor. Kronberg Slot is the mythical home of Shakespeare's Hamlet and Louisiana is Denmarks "leading contemporary art museum." Kronberg is kinda fun - it relies on the Hamlet myth to get visitors there, then becomes a tale of the historic land battles between the Danes and Sweeds.



Louisiana has a developing collection of contemproary art (read 20th cent.), and is in wonderful gardens. The building itself is also something of a trip - like 2 arms hugging a sea view. There was a Max Ernst exhibition on when we went - didn't love it really. Looking forward to seeing their upcoming exhibitions though.

Thorvaldsens Museum

Thorvaldsens Museum, in central København, is a testimony to Denmark's greatest Golden Age sculptor, and the first publicly funded museum in Denmark. It pretty much hasn't changed since it was build, and contains some exceptional work. The cameo room was a major highlight for me.

Valby cemetery

Another lovely cemetery. Lots of wider green areas, and occasional moments of beautiful sculpture.

Frederiksberg cemetery

This is a beautiful cemetery. Each plot has been decorated and usually contains a seat, some light, and, of course, flowers and sculpture.

A typically Danish pass-time, that (to my own surprise) I have been enjoying.

Stockholm

Deprived of my usual lots of people contact here in København (basically, I have no friends her - wha wha poor me), I headed over to Stockholm to catch up with an old friend who I hadn't seen since I was 18. Thankfully, it was as if no time at all had passed since we last saw eachother. A wonderful time.

Stockholm is a very beautiful city, very different from København in that it's all rather hilly. Black rocks jutting out all over the place with (somewhat evil) Disney-like black towers and coloured buildings. There's more aesthetic variety there, and some great mens clothes.

Also saw a PRB show at the Nationalmuseum called Prerafaeliterna. Beautifully put together, well displayed and quite enjoyable.
